The Department of Energy (DOE) recently named CE Lighting, a leading Chinese lighting company from China, as the winning bidder for an offered price of P277.428million.
The contract is in line with the Asian Development Bank (ADB)- supported Philippine Energy Efficiency Project (PEEP). The PEEP will feature, among others, the replacement of 13 million incandescent bulbs with compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs). Along with the other components of the program, this will result in savings of about 90 million US dollars per annum from avoided fuel cost. More significantly, country can defer 1.3 billion US dollars in investments in power generation and associated network capacity of 320 megawatts, which represents about two percent of the Philippines? The total generation capacity.
CE Lighting outbid Cebu Oversea Hardware Co. Inc. (P505 million), Philips Electronics and Lighting Inc. (P287.676 million), China Automation and Control System Corp. and Hangzhou Lin an Sanlian Lighting (P400.96 million), GE Lighting Philippines (P288 million) and Siemens Inc (P317.439 million).
Through managing the demand side of energy, we achieve various objectives. That is to save energy, save on cost, and we save our environment. The last one is the most important underlying mechanism why the project (PEEP) is imperative? Reyes said regarding the project.
